Minerva Ultra Course View – answers to frequently asked questions

Ultra Course View modules are now available for population. Here are the answers to some common questions staff may have as they prepare for the 2022/23 academic year.

Module management and setup

What will happen to my old modules?

There will be no changes to existing 2021/22 or older modules (including merged modules) – they will not be retrospectively converted to Ultra Course View. Access for both staff and students will also remain unchanged for these modules.

I can’t see my 2022/23 Ultra Course View modules

Modules are created throughout the year via a nightly data feed. If you module is new, it may be that it has not been created yet. If the module has run previously, or if you are certain the module has been added to the system, check with your school office to make sure you have an active enrolment in Banner.

My module launches late in the 2021/22 academic year – will it use Original or Ultra Course View?

Any modules attached to the 2021/22 academic year will be created as an Original module and will remain as such. This applies to modules that do not begin until summer 2022, even if they run beyond this period.

Can I still merge multiple modules/use merged modules?

Merged modules can be created in Ultra Course View. 2022/23 instances can now be requested. Contact the IT Service Desk providing the names/codes of the modules you would like merging.

What will happen to organisations?

All new organisations will be created in Ultra Course View (e.g. programme and year-based Faculty or School organisations), however existing organisations will remain in Original Course View until at least summer 2023. The Digital Education Systems Team will endeavour to help move existing organisations to Ultra Course View ahead of this time, where an early move is deemed desirable by the organisation owners. To request a move, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Can I copy content from older modules?

Although automated content copy (sometimes referred to as module rollover) is no longer technically possible, intuitive copy tools exist in Ultra Course View, enabling staff to copy individual, or multiple, pieces of content from older modules. See Copy Content in Ultra Course View for step-by-step guidance.

How do I get enrolled on 2022/23 Ultra Course View modules?

The enrolment process is unchanged. All staff teaching on or supporting modules should be enrolled via Banner. Students will also be enrolled automatically via their Banner record.

How is the Module Staff list within Ultra Course View areas populated? Why aren’t I at the top of the list, even though I’m the Module Leader?

Ultra Course View modules in Minerva prominently display staff members in the Module Staff area above the Details & Actions panel to the left. This list is populated alphabetically by surname and includes all staff members enrolled on a module with the Instructor role. See How students see Module Staff listed in a module page for more information.

Microsoft Class Teams

Instructors can create their own Class Teams linked to Minerva Modules on demand at the click of a button directly in Minerva. The DE Systems Help site has guides on how to create and manage Class Teams.

Reading Lists

Where can I find information on changes to the University’s Reading List tool?

The University’s Reading List tool is changing ahead of the 2022/23 academic year.  Support sessions and demos are available for tutors to update their reading lists using the new system. See, New Reading List system support sessions on the Library website.

Module content

I have embedded content using the HTML option in a Document, it is displaying too small on screen, how do I fix this?

Advice on how to resolve this can be found in our guide on resizing embedded content in Minerva.
