What are merged modules and how to request them - Staff Guide

Merged modules group two or more modules in Minerva to create a new instance that includes all of the original modules' enrolments.

What are the advantages of using merged modules?

Every module with a unique Course Reference Number (CRN) in Banner has a module area created in Minerva. If you have some teaching which is shared across modules that have separate CRN's on Banner, using the module merge facility may save you time as you will only need to maintain one Minerva module area. Students enrolled in each of the modules that have shared teaching will then have access to a single merged module.

The original modules which make up a merge should be left unavailable to students. Staff should also advise students that the merged module will be used instead of the original module(s).

What are the disadvantages of using merged modules?

To avoid confusion, relevant staff need to be aware that there is a new module so that they know where to add content.

Can organisations be merged?

It isn't possible to merge organisations.

How do I request a merged module?

Complete the merged module request form providing the names/codes of the modules you would like merging.
