The Academic Integrity tutorial and test - Student Guide
What is Academic Integrity?
Leeds students are part of an academic community that shares and develops ideas. You need to work with others, interpret and present other people's ideas, and produce your own independent academic work.
It is essential that you can distinguish between other people’s work and your own, and correctly acknowledge other people’s work. We have designed the Academic Integrity tutorials and tests to show you how to avoid plagiarism and instil good practice for your time here at Leeds.
All work you submit for assessment is expected to be your own independent work. Where you have worked with others, or where you present other people’s work as part of your assessment or work you have previously submitted for assessment at the University or elsewhere, you must fully acknowledge this.
There are no limits on the number of attempts. You can review the tutorials and try again until you pass.
About the tutorials and accessing the tests
There are different tutorials and tests depending on whether you are a taught or postgraduate research student. Select the appropriate section below:

Taught student tutorials
Essentials
All taught students new to Leeds must complete the Essentials tutorial and pass the test. This is compulsory for both new undergraduate and new taught postgraduate students. The Essentials tutorial contains 6 topics which should each take around 10-15 minutes to complete. Once you have completed each topic you will have access to the test, which you must pass. There are no limits on the number of attempts. You can review the tutorial and try again until you pass.
Enhanced
The Enhanced tutorial is recommended for second-year undergraduate students and taught postgraduate students, and has three topics that delve deeper into issues that might arise as you progress in your studies. Each topic should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. Once you have completed all three topics, you can take the Enhanced test. There are no limits on the number of attempts, and you can review the topics and keep trying the test until you pass.
Advanced
The Advanced tutorial is recommended for final-year undergraduates and taught postgraduates. It has two topics and focuses on academic integrity in the context of a research project. The topics should take around 15 minutes each to complete, and once you have completed them you can take the Advanced test. There are no limits on the number of attempts, and you can review the topics and keep trying the test until you pass.

Postgraduate Research students
Information for Postgraduate Researchers

Completing the academic integrity tutorials and the online tutorials in research integrity and research ethics should be included in your training plan agreed between you and your supervisors within the first three months, and should be completed within the first six months of study (nine months for part-time study) before the first formal progress review stage. You can find further information about this training, along with full details of how to access the different units, on the Doctoral College’s Research Practice pages.
