Panopto Guidance

This guidance is intended for groups involved in the initial adoption of Panopto, including those using Panopto-enabled rooms. If you're not currently participating in these groups, please refer to the Mediasite lecture capture guidance available on the IT website.

What is Panopto?

Panopto is the new lecture recording and media-enhanced learning platform (MEL) for Leeds. Panopto offers not only high-quality lecture capture functionality, but also allows students to record, edit and stream video content that can be shared with others across the University Community.

What can I do with Panopto?

As a student, you can use Panopto to:

Watch lecture recordings and other videos: You can watch these directly on the relevant Minerva module page or access all your recordings across all modules in one place by logging into the Panopto website.
Record and submit video assignments: If required for an assessment, you can use Panopto to record a presentation on your own device and submit it through an assignment folder in Minerva.
Benefit from enhanced accessibility: Panopto uses AI to automatically generate captions for videos, making your learning more inclusive.
Search: Instantly find any word that is spoken or shown on a slide and jump directly to that moment in the video.
Bookmark: Create bookmarks to quickly return to important sections.
Control Your Viewing: Adjust the playback speed to suit your learning style.

When will I use Panopto?

For most University of Leeds students, Panopto will be used regularly from Summer 2026. From September 2025, some students may be involved in Digital Media based assessment using the Panopto platform as part of a early access scheme, or may be taught in rooms across campus that are 'Panopto Enabled'.
