Hiding Turnitin Grades and Feedback - Staff Guide

By default, Turnitin returns grades and feedback to students on the Feedback Release Date.

For anonymous assignments, you may need to see student names with grades before you wish students to see them. However, staff can only see names and grades together after the Feedback Release Date in the Turnitin assignment settings.

To prevent students from seeing their grades and feedback, you will need to follow these steps.

1.First hide the assignment in Minerva, go to the link in the module and switch the conditional availability to hidden from students. This prevents students from seeing the assignment via Minerva and hides the assignment in their view of Gradebook.

You can also check this in Gradebook as the assignment name will contain a strikethrough.

2. Then open the Turnitin assignment and click on the cog icon.

3. Change the Feedback Release Date to the current date/time.

4. Click Submit for the changes to be made. This will remove anonymity and send grades to the Gradebook. At this point, students could access grades/feedback directly in Turnitin although this is not an advertised route. They will not be able to see Grades in Minerva.

5. To hide feedback from students in Turnitin, you will need to move the Feedback Release Date to the future. Go to the assignment inbox and click on the Cog icon.

6. Change the Feedback Release Date to a date in the future.

7. Click Submit for the changes to be made. The grades and feedback will now be hidden from student view in Minerva and in Turnitin.

When you are ready for students to see their grades/feedback, you will need to make the assignment available to students in Minerva again and change the Feedback Release Date to the current day/time.
