Embedding a video in CampusPress

This guidance explains how to embed videos in CampusPress when the recording is stored in either in your OneDrive or Panopto. The same approach can also be used with other hosting platforms such as YouTube or Vimeo.

CampusPress offers several options for embedding video content, but the most dependable method is to use the Custom HTML block within the Block Editor. Using the Custom HTML block helps ensure that embedded videos display and play correctly across different browsers and devices.

The Custom HTML block allows you to paste the iframe embed code from your video platform directly into your post or page (an iframe is a small piece of HTML code that displays content from another site, such as a video, within your page).

Step 1: Retrieve the Embed Code and set sharing permissions

In Panopto

Open the video in Panopto and use the sharing options to access the embed settings. Set the appropriate sharing permissions (normally Your Organisation (unlisted)).

Select the Embed tab to view the iframe code, then select Copy Embed Code which copies the full <iframe> code. Full guidance on this topic is available in the Panopto Video Sharing Guide.

In OneDrive

First set your video access in OneDrive - There is guidance on sharing OneDrive items on the IT Services Website. Please note that making an item available to Anyone will only make that link available for 30 days before the link will need to be reshared.

Open the video in the web version of OneDrive and select Embed within the sharing menu. Please note that the embed code is not available in the desktop app.

Using the Share menu options in the top right corner of the toolbar above the video and select the Embed code option.

From here, scroll down and select on the purple Copy Embed Code button.

Step 2: Insert the Embed Code on CampusPress

When you have your Embed Code, navigate to the post or page on your CampusPress site where you would like the video to appear. In the Block Editor, add a Custom HTML block using the blue + icon (or Block inserter button) in the top left corner of the screen. Paste the embed code from Panopto into this block.

You can add headings or explanatory text in your blog post above or below the HTML block to provide context for the video. It is recommended that you use the Preview function to check that the video displays and plays correctly before publishing or updating the page. Troubleshooting

Here are some things to check if your video is not displaying:

  • Have you used the Custom HTML block?
  • Have you copied all the Embed Code, including <iframe> and </iframe>?
  • Is the video has been shared with the right users (University of Leeds users, Public, etc)
