Export Gradescope Submissions - Staff Guide

This guide is for Gradescope in Ultra Course View. If you are still working in Minerva Original (modules 2021/22 and earlier), see Minerva Original: Gradescope Administration.

Gradescope has a range of administrative functions to improve assessment workflows.

Export Submissions

For assignment types where students upload their own paper (e.g. Homework), these will be available to download. To export submitted papers from an assignment, click on the assignment link in Minerva or open the Gradescope Dashboard and click the assignment title. From the left hand menu, select Review Grades. From the green toolbar at the bottom of the screen, select Export Submissions.

When the download is complete, click Download Submissions to obtain a zip file of marked submissions.

If you require an export of un-marked submissions, there is a workaround available to obtain these. Go to the Review Grades page and replace the last part of the URL with 'export/without_evaluations'. For example:

  • https://www.gradescope.com/courses/180852/assignments/872677/review_grades is changed to
  • https://www.gradescope.com/courses/180852/assignments/872677/export/without_evaluations

Press Enter to refresh the page, which should then launch a download of a zip file that contains the original submissions without any marking.

If you have already exported the submissions before, you may need to first add a question to the Edit Outline page, click save, and then delete that question. This will re-set the submission export.

Submit on behalf of a student

If it is necessary to submit a paper on behalf of the student, click on the relevant assignment title, then Manage Submissions from the left hand menu. From the green toolbar at the bottom of the page, select Upload Submission. Note that you can only do this if anonymous marking has been turned off.

Use the dropdown menu to select the student you’d like to submit work on behalf of, or search for their name. Click select file and add the file you’d like to upload. Click Upload.

You can also complete a response to an Online Assignment on behalf of a student. From Manage Submission in the left hand menu, there will be an option on the green tool bar at the bottom of the screen for a New Submission.

When this is clicked, the paper will launch along with the option to choose a student at the top of the screen. Use the dropdown menu, or search for the relevant student.

Continue to add responses to the exam, clicking Save Answer after each addition. Click Submit & View Submission at the end of the paper.

Request Regrade

Gradescope has a feature that will allow students to request that their paper is regraded, once the marks have been released.

Careful consideration should be made as to how this feature fits with your assessment workflow. It is a useful way for students to indicate their submission was in the wrong AI group but could also generate unintended outcomes if used in scenarios with large cohorts. This feature is set on a per assessment basis and needs to be configured on each assignment individually.

Click on the assignment you’d like to configure, then Regrade Requests from the left hand menu. Click Regrade Request Settings at the bottom right of the screen.

You can choose to disable regrades completely by unticking the box, or set a time period in which students can request them.

Save your changes.
