Changes to collaboration in Noteable

What is changing?

The Jupyter collaboration feature is planned to be be removed from the Standard and GeoSciences notebook environments in Noteable on Monday 15th December. The Jupyter collaboration feature will be moved to a dedicated environment called Collaboration Notebook.

EDINA, the vendor for Noteable, have repeatedly seen a duplication bug in which intermittently duplicates entire notebook contents. This is believed to be caused by Jupyter real time collaboration. By providing collaboration in a separate environment, EDINA hope to minimise these errors.

The new dedicated Collaboration Notebook, containing all of the features of the current Standard" and Geosciences" notebooks will be made available. Standard and GeoSciences notebooks will no longer offer real-time collaboration once the plan goes into effect from the 15th December.

How does this impact me?

Users who do not rely on Collaboration will not notice any impact. If your module currently relies on collaboration within the Standard/Geosciences environment, please plan to switch to the new Collaboration environment option from 15 December. Please note continued use of this Jupyter collaboration-enabled notebook risks incidence of the duplication bug.
