Panopto Service Update 24 June 2026

What's new in this service update?

Panopto's automatic captioning system is receiving an upgrade. Caption accuracy is being improved, especially for situations which we noticed inaccurate captions in the past, including speakers with accents and content with technical terminology. We are expecting fewer word errors, better language detection and faster captioning, including when live streaming.

If you would like to reprocess captions for a video, from the editor click on Import captions and select Replace with automatic captions. Remember to click Apply in the top right corner of the screen. You can steps in step 1.2.a from the Panopto guide on adding automatic captions.

Lastly, a bug that had been identified when searching with speech marks has been fixed. When searching for specific strings in videos it was not working as expected. You will be able to wrap your search in speech marks to find videos containing that exact phrase. For example, searching "project update" will return only videos that include those words together.

The release will be available today, 24 June at 21:00 BST. You can access the Panopto Release Notes for further details. This will be Panopto release 17.0.
