Mediasite to Panopto Migration - Staff Information
Work is underway to complete the rollout of Panopto. This includes a changeover of room recorders from Mediasite to Panopto for 300+ teaching spaces in preparation for September 2026, and migration of content from Mediasite to Panopto.

Room Recorder Changeover
22nd May 2026 - Panopto Room Rollout Begins
Working with Timetabling, staff from IT and General Teaching Spaces begin conversion of the remaining rooms from Mediasite to Panopto recorders. Each room will be unavailable on the day that the recorder is being replaced. We have scheduled each room to be closed for a full day to allow the work to take place. Unforeseen circumstances may necessitate this period being extended, in which case this will be communicated via the usual channels.
Once the Panopto recorder is fully serviceable, all previous Mediasite lecture capture recordings will be automatically uploaded to Panopto
The intention is to convert around 40 rooms a week.
15th June 2026 - Mediasite Becomes Read-Only
Staff using Mediasite rooms from the 15th June will be asked to use Panopto Personal Capture temporarily until Panopto is enabled in this space. In-room signage will be available and targeted email communication will be sent to people scheduled in affected rooms.
You may contact the Timetabling Team if you need to request any changes to timetabled teaching activities or ad hoc bookings.
31st July 2026 - Panopto Rollout Completion
The aim is for all Mediasite spaces to be converted to Panopto by 31st July with testing completed over the summer period.
Mitigating room disruption
We are implementing the following steps to minimise disruption:
- All room works are scheduled outside of teaching wherever possible.
- Rooms will be unavailable for one day during the swap.
- Worsley Building has been prioritised to mitigate impact on summer Medical teaching.
- Staff who are directly impacted will be proactively contacted. 1:1 support will be offered where needed.
- There will be clear in-room guidance so colleagues can start recordings themselves during the transition.
- Please be aware that the plan is subject to changes to room availability which may arise from bookings for conferences, etc.
Content Migration
Content Migration from Mediasite is underway. Migrated content may continue to appear in your personal folder in Panopto during this period. We ask that users do not edit this content until we confirm all video migration processes have completed, via our usual communication channels.
Students will continue to see the Mediasite content in Minerva until the relinking has been completed.
