First step: apply for a staff username

Before a PhD student can get a staff role in Minerva, they should apply for a staff University username which is associated to an active payroll number. Then they can be enrolled via Banner. They cannot use their student username or student ID number (they must have an active payroll number).

Who can enrol PhD students as staff in Banner?

The Student Education Service representative within your School. If you don’t have one, contact your Banner Super User or refer to the Faculty Learning Technologists contact list for advice.

Recommended staff role

Though there are multiple staff roles available in Minerva, we recommend the Assistant module role for PGR Tutors. This allows them to edit the module/access the Grade Centre. See Staff Roles in Minerva for an overview of each of the staff roles available and the permissions they inherit.
