What is Panopto?
Panopto is the university's lecture capture and Media Enhanced Learning platform, giving you access to lecture recordings and tools for creating, editing, and sharing videos.
Digital Media Support
Whether you’re new to video creation or looking to build your confidence, there’s support available at the university through Skills@Library events and one‑to‑one appointments, Helix facilities, equipment loans, and online guides to help you with digital media.
1-2-1 support and workshops (Skills@Library)
Skills@Library supports Taught Students to develop academic and digital skills, within the curriculum and through online resources. They offer: workshops, 1-2-1 consultations, and drop-in sessions.
- Advice and 1-2-1 appointments: Contact [email protected] if you have questions about software, digital learning tools, or digital study practices. A Digital Learning Advisor will respond to your query and, if needed, arrange a one-to-one appointment online or in person.
- Workshops: attend Skills@Library online or in-person workshops.
- Digital Capabilities Resources: Explore the wide range of digital capabilities resources offered by the Library, such as the Jisc Discovery Tool and Digital Support.
Library Makerspace and equipment loans
The Library offers a range of equipment that can be used on-site, in the Makerspace (on Level 9 of the Edward Boyle Library), or borrowed from the Library of Things, as well as a laptop loans system.
- Library Makerspace: Work on a host of creative projects with the Makerspace's equipment, including 3D printing, drawing, sewing and embroidering, coding, and digital creativity.
- Library of Things: Borrow podcasting microphones, ring lights, smartphone gimbals, 360-degree cameras, microphones, and more for all your creative projects.
- Laptop loans. Borrow a laptop for short-term use from the Edward Boyle, Brotherton, and Health Sciences libraries.
Learning Innovation Hub (Helix)
Helix is the University's learning innovation hub for students, staff, and the local community. It offers cutting-edge digital provision, including immersive technologies, podcasting studios, multimedia production rooms, as well as a physical makerspace.
Helix has a loan system, and you can borrow podcasting mics, cameras, lights, laptops, and other filming accessories.
On the Helix website, you can:
- Browse all Helix Facilities.
- Access the Helix Booking System for rooms and equipment.
- Discover all Helix services available to students.
- Explore the full list of free events at Helix.
IT Support
The University's IT Department offers a wide range of support with our digital systems and tools.
- You can book an appointment if something needs fixing.
- Or log a ticket to report something broken.
Digital Education support
The Digital Education Systems Help website has a host of guides on how to use all digital systems that support your learning, such as Minerva, Turnitin, Microsoft Teams, Panopto, and many more.
