Podcasting Guides for Staff and Students

Podcasting as a medium has developed into a pillar of continuous learning development in a digitally-connected world, and offers unique opportunities in the higher education sector.

The Digital Education Service will be conducting a two-year pilot to provide an institutional solution for podcasting at the University of Leeds in order to explore the unique opportunities provided in student education, innovative assessment, public engagement, research, professional development, and more.

Podcasting is available through two systems to accommodate different approaches to using the content style: Soundtrap for Education supporting module activities and audio assessment, with PodBean available to both staff and students for podcasts intended for distribution (globally or private streams to a narrow audience).

Access to both systems is available on a limited basis through an initial two-year pilot period, and can be requested by completing the PodBean Account Request form or Soundtrap Access Request via the IT Service Desk.

Getting Started with Soundtrap for Education

Providing a 'walled garden' experience, Soundtrap offers a secure space for confidentiality and safe experimentation while still providing full access to the recording and editing features (such as muti-tracking, post-production and a library of professional-quality presets) of their professional industry product. It also offers assignment and group allocation tools for instructors.

Getting Started with PodBean

Podbean is a podcasting recording and distribution service allowing for public and private sharing of epsiodic audio content through a variety of feeds and channels, available to both staff and students with support from the Digital Education Service.
